Jarrahland Trail
Let the sea be your companion on a quiet
self-drive venture this wildflowers season
when you follow the coastal route of a
three-and-a-half hour Jarrahland Trail
from Perth to Manjimup that will take you
past scenic tourist attractions including
Rockingham, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton
and the Margaret River wine region. From
August to November, the wild bushes
along the coast come to life as they adorn
the shores with blue lace flowers, red
and green kangaroo paws and masses of
colourful orchids. Alternatively, the inland
route of the Jarrahland Trail travels through
impressive state forests and national
parks like the Jarrahwood State Forest and
Wiltshire-Butler National Park. Here, you
will not want to miss the finest wildflowers
season from September to November where
the lands are swathed with vividly-coloured
kangaroo paws, orchids, wattles, buttercups,
and native bluebells. Nature enthusiasts
who are looking to take a break from the
fast lanes can take the opportunity to cycle
a section of the well-known Munda Biddi
Bike Trail between Perth and Manjimup.

Indian Ocean Drive
Hop into the car for a road trip along the
Indian Ocean Drive that will take you past
some of the most spectacular spots for
admiring wildflowers including the Lesueur
National Park and Kalbarri National Park.
On your drive from Cervantes to Jurien
Bay, you will not want to miss the vantage
points reserved for you up at the Molah Hill
and Grigson’s Lookout where panoramic
views of native bush lands backed by the
Indian Ocean can be found. Treat your eyes
to the colourful landscapes of the Lesueur
National Park that are overwhelmed with
more than 900 wildflowers species. As the
Indian Ocean Drive comes to an end in
Geraldton, head north on the North West
Coastal Highway to explore natural wonders
including coastal rock formations, ancient
red gorges and dazzling spring wildflower
displays from July to October at the Kalbarri
National Park.

Whiteman Park
Take your mind off your hectic schedules
by going on a short drive north of Perth
where the tranquil trails of wildflowers
at the Whiteman Park Recreation and
Conservation Reserve in the Swan Valley can
be your quick escape from the bustling city.
Unwind at the park’s Wununga Trail, an easy
4.3 kilometres trail that winds its way in a
figure of eight, passing by a diverse range
of towering jarrah trees and native bush
lands. Catch the postcard-perfect sight of
colourful orchids, yellow buttercups, fluffy
white prickly mosses, and bright orange or
yellow feather flowers of the Morrison bush
between September and December at the
Whiteman Park.

Meet the Adventure
Doctor in Albany
For a more thrilling venture, travellers can
get onboard a 4WD with Dr Dave, “the
Adventure Doctor” with the Out of Sight
Tours in Albany which will take you off the
beaten path to the southernmost point of
Western Australia. If you are self-driving,
there are numerous spots for one to stop
by and smell the wildflowers including the
Porongurup and Fitzgerald River national
parks which are home to more than 1800
species of flora and fauna. About 50
kilometres away, one can step out and take
a breath of fresh air at the Valley of the
Giants Tree Top Walk near Denmark. One
should also not miss the chance to walk one
or more of the sections of the Bibbulmun
Track which showcases colourful beds of
wildflowers during the wildflowers season.
If you are here in September, go wild for
wildflowers at the Esperance Wildflower
Festival.
