EASY TRIPS

Pastel pinks may be filling trees and parks in the northern hemisphere this
time of year but in the southern hemisphere, trees are covered in rust and
vermilion. And one of the best places to enjoy the crimson glow of autumn’s
trees is in Bathurst, New South Wales. The regional city is often referred to as
Gold Country, as it was the site of the first gold discovery and gold rush in
Australia. Today, and especially in these months, Bathurst is Gold Country for
its beautiful autumn foliage. One of the best ways to experience the colours of
fall is at the Bathurst Autumn Colours, a series of events covering activities,
the great outdoors, history, food & wine, music and everything else in
between. Most of the events might be over but the best have been saved for
last. Combine art, history and the colours of fall at the Artisan Trades Trail that
rediscovers traditional craftsmanship native to this part of Australia. Take a
walk around small business owners and local crafters, such as McDowell’s
Herbal Treatments and Tremain’s Mill Marketplace, around the scenic town to
enjoy a showcase of traditional arts and trades through demonstrations by
artisans who practise rarely seen skills.
