eastern 211Us, the average of HSZUs is smaller than that of JUs or OUs in most
years.
It can be seen from Fig.3.76 that, the average of Monographs per¥10 million of
eastern 211Us is higher than that of the central or western 211Us. Inside eastern
211Us, that the average of JUs is larger than that of HSZUs or OUs in 2006–2008,
while OUs catch up with a surprising speed to overcome JUs in 2009 and 2010.
3.5 Conclusions
This chapter conducts a multi-perspective descriptive analysis on the research
inputs, outputs and outputs per unit input of 211Us, from the aspects of full sample
and subsamples. Based on the researchfindings from the analysis, we can draw the
following conclusions.
7.1.1 Research Inputs of 211Us..........................
In the views of human inputs, financial inputs, and physical inputs, the total inputs
of 211Us are increasing gradually year by year, of which thefinancial indicators
(total R&D Grants of NEAM disciplines and HSS disciplines) run faster than any
other indicators. This rising trend of research inputs reflects that Chinese govern-
ment pays high attention to building a group of world-class research universities.
There exist gaps, to some extent, between universities at different levels. By
classifying 211Us into 985Us and non-985Us, it’s easy tofind that 985Us outstrip
non-985Us on almost every research input indicator.
