Single malt Scotch whisky maker The Macallan
recently introduced the No. 6, the newest series from
The Macallan 1824 Master Series. The exceptional
single malt features unique natural color and character
that is obtained from first fill Spanish sherry seasoned
oak casks handcrafted by the master coopers of Jerez
de la Frontera, the home of sherry. The No.6 is drawn
from Spanish oak casks built by one cooperage in
Jerez before seasoning for 18 months in the sherry
bodegas with dry oloroso sherries. All of the whiskies
were matured in first fill casks, maximizing aromas and
flavors. The beautiful design enhances the enticing,
rich dark walnut color of a classic The Macallan
character, a celebration of richness, spice and dried
fruit with a layer of heady orange groves. Exclusively
designed and crafted for The Macallan, the Lalique
crystal decanter pays homage to the single malt’s
heritage and its guiding principles through its use
of facets representing the Six Pillars, incorporating
the iconic triangular feature as a key element of its
creation. When nosed the Spanish oak casks deliver
rich notes, elegant and polished. Raisin, dates and
figs dominate like a mountain of fruit; while sultana
and toffee apples add texture and depth. The weight
of flavor practically squeezes the juice from the
raisins. Ginger and cinnamon gently dance around the
edges. The dark chocolate is majestic, whilst vanilla
sweetness lingers in the background. In the palate,
the taste is heavy and sumptuous like a rich fruitcake
with raisin, dates and figs, apples, sultanas, orange;
then ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon and hints of clove. Oak
notes are like velvet, soft and chic, silky smooth. With
each sip you will have a silky smooth cake to savor
with a long and full finish.
