Art Stage Jakarta will be held again in August, but this year will see
the presentation of a major new art award called the Indonesian
Award for Authenticity, Leadership, Excellence, Quality, Serious-
ness in Art. The award is initiated by collector Alex Tedja, and con-
ceptualized and organized by Art Stage Jakarta. The award aims
to foster and support the Indonesian art scene and to help increase
its level of seriousness and professionalism. The award covers the
entire art eco-system of Indonesia in recognizing all the important
aspects of the art industry. The Indonesian Award for Authenticity,
Leadership, Excellence, Quality, and Seriousness in Art will pres-
ent, in a professional and serious manner, 13 award categories that
acknowledge the spectrum of the Indonesian art scene. Awards
will be presented to Best Artist, Best Emerging Artist, Best Curator,
Best Young Curator, Best Gallery, Best Young Gallery, Best Art In-
stitution, Best Exhibition, Best Collector, Best Young Collector and
Best Art Journalist. Two Life Achievement Awards will be present-
ed to an artist and a collector. One of the most significant awards
will be the Bhinneka Award, to recognize one individual’s commit-

ment to advancing unity in Indonesia through the art scene. Six
prominent individuals from the art and cultural political communi-
ties will be the jury to select the winner for the inaugural Bhinneka
Award. A gala award ceremony will take place at the grand audito-
rium of the Institut Francais d’Indonesie on August 10 to recognize
the award winners, who will receive a trophy specially created by
artist Handiwirman Saputra. This gala ceremony will be a platform
for the Indonesian art community to celebrate its creativity and
dynamism. VIPs from the Indonesian art world, as well as specially
invited VIPs from Indonesia, as well as from around Southeast Asia
and the world, will be in attendance to witness this event.
