YOU MEOW KISS
THE BRIDE
One thousand guests is
a pretty large amount
for a wedding. However,
when the buffet is cat food,
it’s a more manageable
number. Last year, a feline-
loving Canadian couple, Louise
Véronneau and Dominic Husson,
flew 4000 kilometres to California to
say their vows in front of more than
1000 cats and kittens at the Cat
House on the Kings, a large feline
sanctuary. We’re guessing it was
a picture purr-fect day.
ODD JOB
When it comes to babysitting this
particular pet, it pays to take things
slow and steady. Amanda Green
made news in March 2016 when
shepostedaCraigslistadseeking
someone to take her eight-kilogram
tortoise, Henry, out for walks in
CentralPark,NewYork–usinga
stroller to transport him there.
Green received offers from people
as far away as Australia. A woman
with previous pet store experience
landed the gig, but fans can keep up
with Henry on his
Facebook page, the
Notortoise BIG.
LATER, GATOR
The bond Mary Thorn
shares with her pet of
12 years is a strong one.
The retired professional wrestler
petitioned the Florida state last year
- she wanted to be allowed to keep
her 15-year-old, 1.8-metre-long
alligator, Rambo, after the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission requested that she find
him another home. State regulations
allow alligators to be kept under
strict conditions, but those greater
than 1.2 metres in length must live
on properties one hectare or larger.
On Thorn’s Facebook page, pictures
show Rambo dressed in denim
overalls, posing on an all-terrain
vehicle and kissing his owner on
the mouth.
After a public campaign, the state
allowed Thorn to keep Rambo –
but the sociable gator will no longer
be permitted to ride in the sidecar
of Thorn’s motorcycle, or attend
parties and other events. BY ALEX MANLEY; ILLUSTRATION: PIERRE LORANGER
