Author Biographies


Cheryl J. Craigis a Professor and Houston Endowment Endowed Chair of Urban Education at
Texas A&M University, TX, USA. Her research focuses on what and how prospective and
practicing teachers come to know, do and be in context. She is an American Educational Research
Association (AERA) Fellow and an AERA Division B (Curriculum) Lifetime Achievement
awardee. She is the evaluator of several National Science Foundation grants, including two Noyce
grants awarded toteachHOUSTON.


Paige Evansis a Clinical Associate Professor in the teachHOUSTON program in the Mathematics
Department at the University of Houston, TX, USA. She is the creator/instructor of thePhysics by
Inquirycourse and the Principal Investigator of the NSF Noyce Grant UH-LIFE. She was the
recipient of three Teaching Excellence Awards between 2013 to 2015.


Simon Bottis a Chemistry Professor at Swansea University, Wales, UK. He formerly was
employed by the University of Houston, TX, USA. He was a Co-Director ofteachHOUSTON
from 2007 to 2016 and a Co-Principal Investigator of 2 Noyce Grants. At the University of
Houston, he was named the 2012 Piper Professor and won eight other teaching and advising
awards.


Donna Stokesis an Associate Professor in the Physics Department, University of Houston,
Houston, USA. Her research focuses on structural/optical characterization of semiconductors for
device applications. She also is involved in physics education research and is Principal Investigator
for the Noyce Scholarship Program for the recruitment/retention/training of physics and chemistry
teachers.


Bobby Abrolrecently completed her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of
Houston, Houston, TX. While at UH, she worked alongside Cheryl J. Craig in the evaluation of the
Noyce grant for the recruitment/retention/training of physics and chemistry teachers that was
awarded toteachHOUSTON.
