Author Biographies


Professor Nesta Devineof Auckland University of Technology, is interested in‘subjugated
knowledges’, feminist and post-structuralist thinking. She is an Associate Editor ofEducational
Philosophy and Theory, co-editor of theNew Zealand Journal of Teachers’Work, and an editor of
theBhutan Journal of Research and Development.


Jeanne Pau’uvale Teisinawas born in the islands of Vava’u and moved to New Zealand with her
family in 1995. Her involvement in Tongan Early Childhood Centres has drawn her attention to
the cultural problems inherent in the regulatory context of New Zealand Early Childhood
Education. She is a currently doing her doctorate degree in Education at AUT University.


Lorraine Pau’uvalewas born and raised in the Kingdom of Tonga. Lorraine graduated with a
Master of Education and Master of Education Leadership in 2012. Her Master of education thesis
is titled Laulotaha; Tongan Perspectives of‘Quality’in Early Childhood Education. This research
focused on reclaiming an understanding of‘quality’from Tongan perspectives.
