match the global success of

House, Hugh Laurie’s return to

TV as another equally irascible

medic has featured some

impressively nasty twists and

turns in its noirish fi rst season.

The fi nale kicks off where other

dramas might begin, with

crime-curious, antique-fl ogging

shrink Eldon Chance suff ering

short-term memory loss, shortly

after targeting the crooked cop

making his life a misery. Might he

Twin Peaks: The Return

9pm, Sky Atlantic

The revisitation of Twin Peaks

has been justly trumpeted by its

besotted fans. It started off as

a police procedural and at heart

it’s an almost banal meditation

on the polarity of good and

evil, as seen in the supernatural

division of Cooper. But it has

produced some of the strangest,

most borderline lysergic TV in

the history of the medium. Some

glorious performances – watch

out for Grace Zabriskie (as Sarah

Palmer) in particular. DS
