Ruth Keir, a GP, spent a week
exploring the Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara is my
favourite place, and I
recently went there with
my dad, going on safari
and taking a hot-air balloon
trip over the Mara for his
birthday. He was amazed
by all the wildlife. People
rightly focus on the larger
creatures here, but there are
some fantastic little animals
to see too. I noticed this
blue agama lizard sitting
on a rock as we drove past
on safari one day. He
seemed to be enjoying the
sun and wasn’t bothered
by us – he had a good look
at us with his funny googly
eyes. I loved his beautiful,
vivid shades of turquoise
and the detail of his
scales, which look like
an elaborate mosaic.
