kangaroo with celeriac remoulade, or more filling mains like
barramundi with a tangy and spicy coriander, kaffir lime and
coconut cream sauce, and its famous lightly battered West
Australian fish & chips (bathersbeachhouse.com.au).
Post-lunch, tour Fremantle’s most famous brewery at Little
Creatures. The brewery has been brewing its own beer since
1999 using imported American hops and has since
expanded to Fitzroy and Geelong in Melbourne. On
the tour, take a history lesson on beer (fun fact: beer
was drunk instead of water for centuries because
it was cleaner than water) before walking around
the brewing grounds and a taste of some of its
beers. Sample its signature Little Creatures Pale
Ale that has citrus and stone fruit notes, its
summer seasonal that is now a year-round cult
favourite – Dog Days, and Elsie, a West Coast
beer with hints of citrus and subtle maltiness
(littlecreatures.com.au).
In the evening, tour Fremantle the most delicious
way with Fremantle Food Tours. Personally hosted by
Megan Yazdani, owner of Fremantle Food Tours, the tour
visits six or seven different venues such as Little Sister
Delicatessen, a purveyor of cheeses and antipasti made in Perth
and Bread in Common, a bakery that serves outstanding bread
with seasoned butters, pestos and dips, and smoked meat
charcuterie (fremantlefoodtours.com).

Fremantle

Just 30 minutes from Perth City is the bustling port city of
Fremantle. It’s a slice of hipster heaven renowned for its
eclectic mix of arty and alternative types, where the town
buzzes with buskers, and trendy cafes and bars fill the streets.
En route to Fremantle from Perth City, check out Rottnest
Island, which is just off the coast of Perth. The island
paradise is best travelled to via river cruise, like the
Rottnest Express Scenic Swan River Cruise. It is
the fastest way to get to Rottnest, bringing
passengers down a beautiful journey of Swan
River before arriving in Fremantle
(rottnestexpress.com.au). Then at Fremantle,
the Fremantle Tram Tour is one way to
explore the town on board its vintage replica
trams. With eight stops, the tour covers a
quick and comprehensive look of the
authentic charm of Fremantle with its
bustling harbours, beautifully preserved
architecture, and its famed Cappuccino Strip
and markets (fremantletrams.com).
By this hour, stomachs will be grumbling so head
down to Bathers Beach House. The iconic stark white building
accented with summery yellow stripes is Perth’s only absolute
beachfront restaurant that is just three steps from the beautiful
white sands of Bathers Beach in Fremantle. For lunch, share
tapas like Korean fried chicken soft tacos, and charred
