Korean fi lm festival
Thanks to Netfl ix’s global
ubiquity, Bong Joon-ho’s
Okja – starring a giant
superpig creature plus
Tilda Swinton – recently
became the most widely
seen Korean fi lm ever
made. But there’s a trove
of similarly spectacular
creations on show at
this event, which starts
in London then tours
the country. Highlights
include a Korean noir
showcase, a celebration
of female voices and
Cannes hit The Merciless
(pictured), as well
as documentaries,
animation and more.
Various venues, 26 Oct
to 19 Nov

FilmFear
This mini fi lm season
is engulfed by horror,
including an evening
dedicated to Hitchcock’s
Psycho, with a screening
of its shower scene-
dedicated documentary
78/52. Elsewhere, there
are previews, shorts and
guests, all summoned in
the spirit of dread.
HOME, Manchester, 26 to
31 Oct

Horror in the Caves
Set in the labyrinth
of man-made caves
beneath Bristol, this
strand of the city’s fi lm
festival is hosting 13 (of
course) screenings of
classic and contemporary
horror movies. If
Paranormal Activity and
An American Werewolf
in London weren’t
frightening enough,
the festival claims
that there have been
reports of “paranormal
activity” within the site’s
gloomy network of
passages. Scary or smart
marketing trick? Find out
for yourself.
Redcliff e Caves, Bristol,
Fri to 22 Oct
