tall grass, stalking the tasty
gazelle on the horizon.
The elephant rips at a
baobab tree with its tusks,
searching for the water stored inside.
The beaver piles logs to build a dam
and packs them down with mud. In the
wild, animals spend much of their time

water, building homes, or staying away
from predators.
In a zoo, however, the animals don’t
have to worry about many of these

up the water troughs, and make sure the
animals have safe, secure enclosures.
