at the time; someone in our company got married, she is 26; then one of my parents’ friends got married
at the age of 61. For some, it was their fi rst marriage, but a second for their partners; for another it was the
fi rst time for both; for a couple of others it was a second marriage for bride and groom. I think I’ve literally
attended all kinds of weddings and seen pretty much all kinds of marriages, too. Haven’t we all?
Some months ago, when we were planning this issue, I wondered aloud to my team, why most
wedding content was focussed only on young heterosexual people marrying for the fi rst time. Clearly,
the world had moved on, but barring a beautiful Tanishq ad a few years ago, most people in media
ignored the fact that people marry at various points in their lives. And no matter what the age, no matter
how many times you’ve done it, you still want to make it a really special day.
The only diff erence perhaps is that when you’re older, you’re paying for it all yourself.
So this issue of Travel+Leisure Weddings & Honeymoons is dedicated to couples of all ages and orientation.
From beautiful new wedding destinations like Bahrain, to honeymoon ideas appropriate for diff erent
couples, and gift guides full of tempting buys, the issue is
packed with a lot of great ideas that will help you plan and
give you the right suggestions.
We also got some wedding industry insiders to reveal
insights on the latest trends. My favourite story though is
32 Quick Dates Before You Get Married—because, well, I felt,
I could just do these and not get married at all. How much
fun would that be!
But seriously though, it is an excellent idea to go on these
‘dates’ so you can really get to know your partner, build
intimacy and an equation before you are actually legally
bound to each other as well. There’s something about the
ceremony of marriage that almost always has such a huge
impact on a couple’s equation. And it’s just a good thing to
build that before it gets aff ected by a piece of paper.
We hope you fi nd all of this hugely helpful, we certainly
had a great time behaving like we were getting married
and therefore scouring the globe for great ideas and doing
all this research. And we wish you a wonderful life full of
adventures with your partner.

In the last two years, I’ve attended

a variety of weddings. One of my

friends got married, she was 39
