W

hen we hear about the
American Pitbull Terrier,
we think of it as an
aggressive breed. We
google and we read that this breed
has been banned in many parts of
the world. I too had the same notion
till I got my baby, Hazel.
Everything said is only one side of
the coin and like every coin has two
sides, pit bulls are not aggressive,
but, energetic. It’s all about how you
channelise their energy.
If you keep a dog leashed day in
and out, no matter what breed it is,
it will become aggressive. On the
contrary, if you socialise dogs well,
even a pit bull is very friendly.
As far as Hazel is concerned,
from the beginning, she socialises
and loves playing with the four

legged kind and the two legged
ones as well.
Training is the most important
aspect for any living thing. So,
pit bulls too have to be trained
properly, ideally under the guidance
of a trainer. Socialise them with
other dogs in the locality and with

other humans. People believe
that if we socialise our dogs, then
they won’t be protective, but,
protectiveness is a dogs’ basic
character which cannot change so
you need not worry.
Lastly, love your dog like a baby
and keep her/him like a baby.

PIT Bull S
n Created by breeding terriers and bulldogs, the result are dogs
who are agile like the terriers with the strength of bulldogs.
They were used in blood sports like bull baiting and bear baiting
which are banned or termed illegal in most countries. Though
they are a breed that is associated only with bites and blood,
people do have them as loving pets too. In fact, Pit bulls have
found fame with their roles as police dogs, search and rescue
dogs, actors, seeing eye dogs and celebrity pets!

Not always

aggressive!
