Jungle Rhythm The scene sparkles
with life and energy, a fi tting tribute
to the lighter-side of the Indian
jungle where the skies are blue,
monkeys leap about in wild abandon
and little bear cubs hitch a ride on
their mama’s back. Animal portrait,
action, habitat, behaviour. In his
characteristic fashion, Baiju Patil has
made a superbly-balanced picture
that defi es easy categorisation and
reinspires awe at both his skill and
subject. This lovely moment was
witnessed in Karnataka’s Daroji Sloth
Bear Sanctuary, where Patil spent
hours waiting for the mother and
cubs to emerge from the shade into
the harsh sunlight.
