Science and art have the ability to create magic when they come together. Ernst Haeckel, a brilliant German biologist, naturalist and more,
epitomised just this. He was best known for his vibrant, impassioned, sometimes exaggerated illustrations showcasing life forms on Earth like no
one else had, or has since. Some of his most famous illustrations featured in his publication Art Forms of Nature that he published between 1899
and 1904. You can marvel at one of them right here. Named 'Blastoidea', this astonishingly striking artwork depicts extinct blastoids or sea buds, on
whom you can see the intricate calcium carbonate body plates that defi nes their phylum Echinodermata.
