domestic market was 31,566 units,up
34 per cent over August 2016.


Mahindra & Mahindra sold 538 units
of MHCVs in August 2017 growing
45 percent. M&M’s total commercial
vehicle wholesales in August 2017
stood at 16,303 units compared to
13,993 units in the same period a
year ago.


The sales grew on the back of
growing demand across segments
supported by the continued ramp-up
in production of BS-IV vehicles since
April this year.


Ashok Leyland continued its growth
run in August, with a step up of 25.11


per cent. The company posted total
sales of 13,634 units compared to
sales of 10,897 vehicles in the same
month last year. VECV delivered
3,818 in August 2017 compared to
3,450 units same month previous
year.


Three-wheelers


Three-wheeler wholesales in India
grew marginally by 2.51 percent to
51,451 units compared to 50,193
units dispatched in the same month


a year ago. The main growth driver
for this segment was goods carriers
which grew 5.42 percent to 9,506
units against 9,017 units previous
year.
Sales of TVS three-wheelers grew
15.79 per cent to 1,415 units in
August 2017. Piaggio was down 9.79
per cent, while M&M dropped 6.98
per cent.

Two-wheelers
The most important part of the two-
wheeler industry sales in August was
the12.9 percent growth to 1,135,699
units against 1,005,654 units in the

same month a year ago. Scooter
sales also posted a strong growth
of 18.61 percent in August 2017 to
673,444 units over 567,782 units
delivered by all the scooter makers
last year in the same month. Mopeds
also grew 8.6 percent in August this
year to 81,919 units compared to
75,435 units a year ago.
The overall two-wheeler sales also
reported a strong growth of 14. 69
percent in August 2017 to 1,891,062

units compared to 1,648,871 units a
year ago same month.
The largest two-wheeler maker Hero
MotoCorp dispatched 661,490 units
in the domestic market compared to
601,241 units of wholesales in the
previous year same month. Honda
Motorcycle and Scooter India sold
586,237 units in August this year as
against 466,289 units same month a
year ago.

Exports
Though the overall exports of
automobiles from India in August
saw a growth, most of the segments

were in red in exports. India exported
a total of 332,533 units in August
2017 compared to 310,080 units
exported in the same month last year,
registering a growth of 7.24 percent.

Both the passenger vehicle and
commercial vehicle exports declined
24.7 percent and 28.28 percent,
respectively, in August 2017. Three-
wheeler and two-wheeler exports
grew 17.7 percent and 19.8 percent,
respectively.
