Y

ou often hear us saying ‘get out there’ and
‘live the dream’, but sometimes we take a
break from camping because life gets busy
and fi nding time to escape for a weekend
or more seems all too hard. Sometimes what we need
is a little nudge to get back out there. It might be the
inspiration that we get from a well written magazine
article or a recommendation from friend, while at other
times it may be because our friends have planted the
seed for adventure.
Next year I have a dilemma. Two separate groups
of friends have plans in motion for a couple of cracker
trips. One group of friends want to do Cape York with
camper trailers in tow, while the other group of friends
want to do the entire Cape by trail bike with support
vehicles and campers helping to make it all happen.
Bugger! I know that I can’t do both, but seeing as both
would be awesome trips, which one do I chose?
These trips came around during conversations with
mates, but I quite often end up in new locations thanks
to fellow like-minded enthusiasts who get me all revved
up and wanting to head back out there again.
Forums are a great way to hook onto that next must-
do adventure, and dedicated camper trailer forums like
myswag.org or campertrailers.org will keep your calendar
full for years to come, but that’s only possible if you can

pull yourself away from the keyboard for long enough.
Forums aside, my inspiration quite often comes from
one of the two 4WD clubs that I am a member of. One
is local while the other is 300kms from home, but the
luxury that I have is that the trips are lead by different
groups, to different locations, with different adventures
thrown into the mix. Just when I get a little bit lazy, my
inbox has the latest club trip calendar in there and all of
a sudden I’m out in the garage and getting the camper
trailer ready to head off again.
It really doesn’t matter if I don’t get out every second
weekend, or that I have the odd break as I tackle those
jobs around the house that my wife keeps adding to
the list. The most important thing is getting out there
and living the dream. Every time I pull back into my
driveway I think ‘why didn’t I just do that earlier, what an
awesome trip!’ The question is, how am I going to feel
when I get back from one of those cracker trips next
year, and how will I feel about the other one? I guess I’ll
just have to let you know.

Cheers,

Colin ‘Broady’ Broad
