or young kids growing up in Southern California,
the opportunities for entertainment were nonstop.
The choices were almost endless with surfing,
skateboarding, snowboarding, and the bevy of

traditional stick-and-ball sports available year-round. But if


you were a kid back in the early ’80s, the hot ticket was BMX.


Casey Scranton was like any other SoCal kid, riding his bike and


busting tricks off sidewalks and rickety homemade ramps to


catch air and impress his friends.


His name might be familiar, as he became the BMX World
Champion at the tender age of 5. “I won because I was better
than the other kids,” Casey says. “Though, they really didn’t
have a 5-and-under class, so they stuck me with the older kids.”
He later went on to a successful career as a BMX racer before
settling into the role that he is most known for in recent years,
owner of CGS Performance Products in Chino, California.
It seems Casey’s love for two-wheeled entertainment got
passed down to his 8-year old son (aptly named) Ryder, who is
