[Sorkin]’s scripts are such well-
written actor fodder, and I’m not
known for articulation. I’m a London
lad with a lisp,” said IDRIS ELBA who
plays Bloom’s attorney. “Aaron is very
meticulous about what’s being said. He’s
not someone who’s going to let
you improvise,” recalled Elba. “He said,
‘Every single comma and period is
there for a reason. Trust it.’ And
once I did that, it became like
poetry for me. My brain
was buzzing.”
I think this is a very interesting time for women in the
United States to ask that question.”

Father figure: To prep for his directorial debut, Aaron Sorkin sought
tips from a few directors as well as writers who became writer-
directors. It also helped that one of his actors, KEVIN COSTNER, who
plays Bloom’s father, is a director too. “When he talked as a director,
it was to be supportive, to say, ‘You’re doing great. This tracking shot
you’ve designed, if you want to hand off here at the end it might
make a nice cut.’ His advice was always welcome.”
