POSTE R!

The Commuter
Liam Neeson is back to tear someone a new
one... on a train. We know that because he’s
striking the same don't-mess-with-me pose he did
on the posters of Taken and Unknown. So don't
tell him his train is going to be late.

Expect a more immersive experience at
two new cineplexes.
Golden Village and Cathay Cineplex have just expanded
their businesses in the east — the former with the
eight-hall Golden Village Paya Lebar at SingPost Centre
in Eunos, and the latter the seven-hall Cathay Cineplex
Parkway Parade. If you’ve been to one cineplex, you’ve
seen them all, right? Not really. GV Paya Lebar prides
itself as the first cineplex to use the Barco Smart
Laser Projection, which delivers picture quality that’s
brighter and sharper than that of your standard digital
projection. Of course, to make the distinction, you have
to watch the same movie twice. (Okay, who wants to sit
through Geostorm again? Maybe it’ll be less crappy the
second around.) Elsewhere, Cathay Cineplex Parkway
Parade offers the Assistive Listening Device system,
which lets hearing- and visually-impaired patrons
better appreciate the movie via wireless infrared
headphones (below). So they’ll be like watching an
inflight movie but on a way bigger screen. Come to
think of it, the management should extend the service
to regular patrons who don’t want to
be disrupted by incessant talkers
and noisy eaters. Another plus: It’ll
help them better understand what
the characters — like Tom Hardy’s
mumbling Bane in The Dark Knight
Rises — are saying sometimes.
