Her working hours in the office are broken
up by a nutritious lunch and sweet treat from
a nearby healthy eatery, and leaving at 4pm
means she can squeeze in a run before the
nursery pick-up. It’s then that Reid says she
makes a conscious effort to put her phone
away and “just focus on him”. After bath,
story and bedtime for Max, she will log back
on and work for a few hours in the evening,
but says, “My husband and I always try and
wind down for an hour or so before bed.”
Balanced they may be, but there’s no
denying Reid’s days are full of activity. She
credits meditation as helping her to stay

centred, explaining, “It often feels counter-
intuitive to drop everything and sit quietly
doing nothing when you feel overwhelmed
with the amount you have to do, but it helps
me think more clearly and be much more
efficient.” She adds, “I also go for long runs
for a sort of moving meditation. For me,
truly looking after yourself means doing
something that feels nourishing. It could be
a long bath with a good book, a massage
at home or a yoga class. Being a mum has
made me want to be healthier than ever!”
When asked how motherhood has
changed her approach to wellness, Reid

reflects on her realisation that she would
never again have the same amount of time
to exercise or spend on herself. “That was
a hard adjustment for me as running was
something that not only calmed me but had
become a big part of who I was. As Max
got older, I managed to regain running time
by prioritising it. I want to be a strong and
healthy mum who can do anything!”
