Brian Smith Joins Hyundai America As COO


Achates Power Expands Board

H

yundai Motor America has
appointed Brian Smith as
its Chief Operating Officer
(COO). He reports to
Hyundai Motor America president and
CEO, Kenny Lee, and is responsible for
all aspects of Hyundai’s US operations,
including its corporate and product
strategic direction, sales, marketing,
customer satisfaction and dealer
development.
“Brian Smith’s long track record of

success in empowering organizations,
driving change in future retailing and
exceeding expectations makes him the
right person to help lead Hyundai and
prepare us for the continued evolution
of the auto industry,” Lee said. “I
look forward to working with Brian to
energize Hyundai’s US momentum
and sales growth. We are focused
on a strong close to the year and
preparations for several important new
product introductions in 2018 starting

with Kona, along with the national
rollout of Shopper Assurance, our
approach to a better retail experience.”
Smith joins Hyundai after more than
30 years with Toyota and Lexus
with experience in sales, marketing,
dealer development and regional
operations. During his successful
career at the automaker he held
numerous leadership positions, most
recently as the Vice President of retail
transformation for Toyota USA.

chates Power, Inc. has
appointed John Wall,
retired Chief Technology
Officer, Cummins, and John
Koszewnik, Chief Technical Officer,
Achates Power, to its Board of Directors
with immediate effect.

members to the Board of Directors,”
David Johnson, Achates Power
President and CEO, said. “They bring
deep industry experience and unique
perspectives that will be beneficial as
we continue our growth. The combined
wealth of industry knowledge and

leadership experience on our board is
truly inspiring.”
Wall has more than 35 years of industry
experience in internal combustion
engine technology, fuels and emissions,
and in global engineering organizational
development. Most recently, Wall served
as Chief Technical Officer of Cummins
Inc., retiring in 2015. As he progressed
from research and product engineering
into engineering leadership, Wall
remained directly involved in the most
critical technology programmes for low
emissions, powertrain efficiency and
alternative fuels.

Koszewnik joined Achates Power in
June 2011 as Chief Technical Officer
and will replace the company’s founder,
James Lemke on the board. Koszewnik
leverages his 40 plus years of industry
experience to further the development
of Achates Power’s clean, efficient
and cost effective internal combustion
engine designs.

Koszewnik worked at Ford Motor Co.
for 30 years, most recently as Director
of North American Diesel, where
he led engineering and business
responsibilities for Ford diesel offerings
within North America.

Renault-Nissan Appoints Jayakumar


David As Alliance HR Director In India

he Renault-Nissan Alliance
has appointed Jayakumar
David as Alliance HR Director,
India, effective November 1,


  1. David currently serves as Vice-
    President HR RNTBCI (Renault Nissan
    Technology and Business Centre India)
    and will continue with this role as well.
    In his new role, David will be
    responsible for all the Alliance HR
    operations in India, ensuring optimum
    effectiveness, while driving efficiencies
    of HR delivery to strengthen the
    Renault-Nissan synergies in India.

Director HR, Africa-Middle East-India
(AMI) Region, said, “We are pleased
to welcome Jayakumar David in his
new role and extend our full support

to him in successfully executing his
mandate, as we aspire to strengthen
the Renault-Nissan Alliance in India.

At the same time, we are grateful
to Christophe Dalby who has been
instrumental in implementing and
developing the Alliance HR in India for
the past four years who will now move
to the headquarters. The Renault-
Nissan Alliance will continue to grow
its presence in India, fostering and
nurturing the best talent.”
David will be based in Chennai,
reporting to SumitSawhney, Country
CEO and Managing Director Renault
India Operations, and Thomas Kuehl,
President Nissan India Operations, with
a functional reporting to Dominique
Dumoulin, Alliance HR Director, AMI
Region. He will also report to Krishnan
Sundararajan, Managing Director
RNTBCI for specific entity related
activities.
