Have you ever looked down the rim of an active volcano?
Fancy it? Well, now some tour operators can make this larger-
than-life experience come true in Ethiopia. Situated in the Afar
Depression, Erta Ale is one of the six active volcanoes in the world
and home to the largest lava lake. The temperatures here can rise
up to as high as 50 degree celsius even in winters, making it one
of the most inhospitable places in the world. However, when the
volcano is not erupting, it is possible to walk all the way to the
crater rim and watch the fl aming lava.
