Have you ever looked down the rim of an active volcano?


Fancy it? Well, now some tour operators can make this larger-


than-life experience come true in Ethiopia. Situated in the Afar


Depression, Erta Ale is one of the six active volcanoes in the world


and home to the largest lava lake. The temperatures here can rise


up to as high as 50 degree celsius even in winters, making it one


of the most inhospitable places in the world. However, when the


volcano is not erupting, it is possible to walk all the way to the


crater rim and watch the fl aming lava.
