ALWAYS ANOTHER
COUNTRY(Jonathan Ball
Publishers, R240) is available
nationwide.
At the end of 2017, Sisonke
Msimang released her much-
anticipated memoir, Always
Another Country. The book
chronicles her exile in Zambia
and Kenya, her student life in the
United States and her eventual
return to South Africa in the ’90s.
As much as she lays bare her
disillusionment with present-
day South Africa, Sisonke also
explores her own identity. ‘This
book,’ she told Marie Claire,
‘was a means of exploring
the way to tell a story from
the perspective of an ordinary
person, with South Africa as the
backdrop, while talking about
things that are important to its
citizens at the moment. This
book is really about all South
Africans and our search to fi nd
a place in this country.’

‘I started running a while back, and now it’s become
so much a part of my life, that when I don’t do it, I can
feel it in everything that I do. It’s become something
that helps me as much on a mental level as it does
a physical level.’ - Sisonke Msimang
