THE FOCUS CLINIC EXPERIENCE

Ditch your glasses and contact lenses ahead of
your Big Day with laser eye surgery at Focus Clinic

CRYSTAL CLEAR

Situated on Wimpole Street,
around the corner from the
medical hub of renowned
Harley Street, instead of clinical,
cold and robotic, a welcoming
atmosphere and friendly team
awaits you when you have
your first no-obligation, free
consultation, where your eyes
are tested, to ensure they are
healthy enough to undergo the
procedure.
The most common treatment
is LASIK, which is what I
underwent. The surgeon works
on one eye at a time, beginning
with gently taping back the
eyelashes so that they don’t
get in the way, whilst the eye is
clamped open with a speculum,
which is slightly disconcerting
but the whole thing is over
within a miraculous ten minutes,
so you hardly mind. Clever
anaesthetic drops are popped
in, numbing the eye swiftly and
bizarrely tricking the eyes so
that they don’t frantically try
to blink. Using state-of-the-art
technology, the first laser, a
Ziemer LDV, is used to create
a thin flap in the cornea (the
clear part at the front of the
eye), followed by lifting the
flap aside and using the second
laser, WaveLight Allegretto

Eye-Q 400Hz, which removes
and shapes the corneal tissue,
correcting the vision.
After an initial few seconds
of blur, I could tell the time on
the clock in the room and I soon
realised how life-changing this
will be. Amazingly, the process
was totally painless, despite the
slight discomfort of the eyes
being clamped open and the
brief pressure of the laser.
Following the initial stinging
and watering, the eyes settle in
the first 24 hours and you will
are given eye drops to assist
with the healing. After-care has
been phenomenal and Focus
Clinic’s Lifetime Care Guarantee
means that they will look after
your eyes at no extra cost
forever – you can’t get more
reassurance than that. Now all I
need to worry about is savouring
my new vision, planning my
wedding with a fresh pair of
eyes and look forward to waking
up next to my loved one every
morning and being able to see
him clearly, without looking
through a lens.

Laser Facts

  • First performed over 25
    years ago, laser eye surgery
    is safer than ever.

  • Short sight (myopia) and
    long sight (hypermetropia)
    can both be treated by
    laser eye surgery.

  • If your cornea is too thin
    for LASIK, the alternative
    is LASEK, without creating
a flap and recovery time is
4-7 days instead of 4 hours.

  • Astigmatism, when the
    cornea is shaped like a
    rugby ball instead of round
    which causes distortion,
    can also be treated during
    the treatment.

  • Although complications
occur in less than 5% of
    cases (Focus Clinic boasts
    100% success rate, which
    is why Ameera chose
    them), you can get dry
    eyes, treated by drops
    and experience glare/halo
    effects at night. Loss of
    vision is extremely rare.

  • Prices at Focus Clinic start
    from £3950 for both eyes,
    depending on treatment
    and prescription.

W

aking up in the morning
and not being able to
find your glasses when
you’re already late for
work, cutting your leg
whilst shaving in the shower, losing your
contact lens in the swimming pool, or that
time when your contact lens went doolally,
before going to a wedding with your glasses
as an unwanted accessory. Sound familiar?
These are just some of the annoying
scenarios glasses-wearing folk experience.
