PURE SIMPLE

So how did you two meet?
I: Well, she slid into my DM’s.
A: No, you commented on my post first.
I: To say ‘thank you’ for doing the table
decor at my brother’s wedding.
A: And then I sent him a DM to ask if he
would make a promo video out of it...
I: so...you slid in my DM?
A: Shush!
I: Anyway, we continued working with
each other on a professional level for
nearly a year. I wanted to settle down
and she was someone that seemed to
tick all my boxes so I told my parents
about her and asked them to look into
it for me.
A: I had no idea this was even
happening
I: Next thing you know, my family
got in touch with her family and it all
happened the traditional way.
A: They didn’t waste any time. Bio datas
were exchanged and the families met. I
was excited and overwhelmed but also
extremely nervous.
I: Our families set a date for our
wedding before the month of Ramadan,
we had 90 days to plan our wedding.
I was feeling the pressure as each day

went by, but I felt happy that I was
embarking onto this religious and
spiritual chapter in my life.
A: Awwwwwwwwww.
I: She paid me to say that.
A: Oi!

Everyone has a vision of their Big
Day, did yours match the dream?
A: Working in the wedding industry
myself as owner of planning company
Canvas Couture, I always wanted a big
fat Asian wedding with fancy décor and
a grand venue. But he changed my way
of thinking by explaining to me the true
essence of marriage in Islam.
I: In Islam, marriage is described as
‘half of your faith’, an act of worship.
And the less you spend the more
reward you gain from your Lord as He
blesses your marriage with happiness.
And logistically speaking, spending
thousands on a wedding day would
leave us broke and the money could be
spent on something like a house.
A: So that’s when we opted for a simple
wedding. We held it inside Haringey
Masjid with 330 guests; our immediate
family and a few friends.

What was the main inspiration behind your day
in terms of the theme and décor?
I: I’ll let her handle this one
A: Thank you husband! We just wanted something
simple but elegant. Our inspiration was from the
Masjid itself, it felt like stepping into a Masjid in
another country. We didn’t want to ruin that and
over-do it with the décor, so we decided to go for a
combination of ivory and gold décor.
I: I knew she wouldn’t make any mistakes. The
décor complimented the interior design of the
Masjid and looked amazing on camera.

Most important bit. What did you wear?
I: I picked an outfit that was smart and simple and
finished it off with a turban.
A: I didn’t want anything red and traditional
because it doesn’t suit me. I didn’t even shop for
too long, I just found a dress that made me feel like
a princess.
I: But it dragged along the floor and I had
backache from having to keep picking it up for her.
