WITH TIMMY
Have a question about design and décor?
Timmy is on hand to answer
I can’t wait to choose my wedding
décor, how much of my budget
should I put aside?
Generally we suggest that clients
should spend at least half of what
they have paid towards their venue
on the décor. Your décor is what will shape
the venue you have booked. Some couples
assume that décor is a cheap addition to
your catering package which you don’t have
any say over, but this is not the case. Décor
is a key aspect of all weddings just like
clothes, make-up, jewellery and
photography - the décor should match and
complement these elements. Also don’t
settle for standard packages which you will
regret when you look back at the pictures,
the more unique and tailored to your tastes
the décor is, the more you will love it.
I’m getting married next summer
what trends for 2017 do you
predict that I should consider?
2017 is going to be all about
mirrors. There are so many ways to
incorporate them into décor. I
predict we’ll be seeing mirrors as panels,
mirror chains, mirror frames as stage
backdrops, with messages printed on top
and even lit up. They work well in all kinds of
spaces, especially small ones as they create
a natural light. For natural décor like flowers
there’ll be a lot more foliage, so think green.
I wanted to have a snow machine
at my wedding but my venue
won’t allow it. Now I wish I was
getting married somewhere else but it’s too
late to change, what can I do?
There are many regulations which
venues have and they have to be
adhered to. Always choose your
venue and décor supplier side by side to get
the right advice for the venue to see if your
ideas work. Most suppliers are aware of the
rules and regulations of the venues they
tend to work in and can suggest alternate
venues where your ideas can be fulfilled. For
now though as you are already committed
to the venue, it’s worth discussing with your
venue what they will allow as an alternative.
Timmy’s Tips For Winter
As darkness sets outside, bring the atmosphere indoors with mood lighting. Incorporate fairylights
and the glow of LED and candles. Fairylights look great behind sheer fabrics for mehndi stages too.
For winter wonderland themes, use ice blue or ice white lighting to add sharp winter tones.
PICK OF THE MOMENT
Q&A
Be house proud. Not all wedding functions
occur at elaborate venues. This couple
opted for their nikaah ceremony to take
place in their own living room. Rather than
being seated on a sofa as per tradition, they
opted for a long table placed in the centre
of the room. We then brought in elegant
Chiavari chairs in gold and covered the
table in ivory linen. Each place setting was
laid out with clear gold rimmed charger
plates as a base plate, this style of charger
plate is very popular. Fresh flowers and
mood-enhancing candles, in tealight
holders and candelabras ran down the
centre of the table on a mirrored surface.
Beautiful soft shade blooms of gypsophila,
baby pink spray roses, avalanche roses,
pure white hydrangeas and crystal blush
calla lilies were looped over the top to add
drama and definition. This sort of a setting
works perfectly for the family or head table.
For an even more glamorous finish, allow
the flowers to flow over the edge.
