Are Manchester City
genuinely so much better
than everyone else?
The league table doesn't lie, but
there is a long way to go and
a lot can happen. I'm sure City
will have a sticky period, it's a
question of whether they can
still get results at that time. At
this moment in time if they win
every single game they're going
to win the league but hopefully
that doesn't happen and we can
get close enough to put some
pressure on them by playing
good football ourselves.
We can only take care of our
own results. People say City
can't be caught but a few years
ago you'd probably have said
they can't win the title when
they needed two goals in injury-
time, so anything can happen.
They deserve to be where they
are – there's no doubt about
that – but we all know how
long the season is, and injuries,
suspensions and tough patches
of form come into play.
The league table suggests
there's not a great deal
between the other four or five
teams behind City...
It's pretty tight in the chasing
pack. We're all quite close
together and that's the quality of
the Premier League. Every year
there's a surprise team that does
really well and joins the main bulk
of teams that are challenging,
but like I said before the
unpredictability of the Premier
League is what everybody loves
about it.
Is Mo Salah better than you
thought he was going to be?
I wouldn't say that, but I am
pleasantly surprised at how well
he has done so quickly. He's
played in the Premier League
before, but changing leagues,
changing countries, moving
your whole life and playing for
a different team takes some
getting used to.
People forget that sometimes.
They expect players to come
here and play their best football
because it's the same game.
But the leagues are different,
the football is different, your life
is different and you're moving
your family who have also got to
settle in. It's a big change to do
that and hit the ground running
like Mo has.
To play as well as he has and
score the goals like he has is all
credit to him. He's a top player
and if you give him a chance
he'll take it. That's credit to the
boys as well for helping him to
get those chances. We need
to make sure as a team we
keep providing him with those
chances, but we need to take
a bit of pressure off him too
because if anything happened to
him we need to ensure we have
goals all over the field.
