in other areas of the body, resulting in severe
infl ammation, pain, and swelling. Th e doctor
at Riley’s Children’s Hospital began treatment
for JIA, and even though Clayton’s road to
recovery started to take shape, it was not until
May of 2016 that an amazing breakthrough
came for Clayton and his family. After
several prescribed drugs and treatments that
resulted in minimal recovery, Clayton’s doctor
recommended an arthritic injection called Enbrel.

After the treatment with Enbrel, Clayton’s
condition improved almost immediately. He
was even able to walk into his follow-up doctor’s
visit the next month and visit the nearby
children’s museum walking all on his own!

After Clayton ended his story at his testing,
there was not a dry eye in the dojo. As Clayton

turned back to the examination table, his next
words were to express how thankful he was
to be able to fulfi ll his dream of training in
the martial arts. Clayton’s story is an amazing
example of the power of the human spirit and
the values that are taught in martial arts of
never giving up and persevering against all
odds to achieve your dreams. Th anks to an
incredible support system, successful treatment,
and a tremendous spirit, there is no doubt
Clayton will continue to see many successes
in life and in his training in ChunJiDo!
