I witnessed a common theme throughout the event, and also
by virtue of the inductees: our service members, veterans and
first-responders are highly prized. Many of those inducted
and recognized have either served, are serving or have helped
these communities through the arts. It struck a personal
chord with me because I, too, hold these groups in high regard.

It’s important to point out that the annual event is just a
highlight, a capstone to what the organization does all
year long. The Universal Martial Arts Hall of Fame is about
resources. It will evaluate artists, issue rank, register
and license qualified instructors and students further
acknowledging their achievements.
From the youth programs and charitable causes they embrace
to helping establish professional standards, UMAHoF is a
hands-on association of students, teachers and professionals
from all disciplines and walks of life.
With over 33 state representatives, directors and regional
directors across the nation, you’ll find support near you. There
are 25 International Advisors that can guide you across the
globe. I found their Executive Board and Board of Directors
kind and approachable, and Professor Guerra sets the tone
for the whole thing.
A good thing doesn’t go unrecognized by the people of
the City of Houston. Mayor Sylvester Turner officially
proclaimed August 12, 2017, as Universal Martial Arts Hall
of Fame Day.
