Tae Kwon Do Times — January 2018

(Greg DeLong) #1
Figure 4- Defender immediately grabs two
pressure points (side of the opponent’s neck)
with his thumb and index fi ngers (fi gure 5).

Figure 5
Note of fi gure 4 be careful that if you perform a
correct and an accurate hit,the attacker would
not be able to use of his/her other hand, although
you should be ready for anything. Keep your
distance, and your shoulder and arm should be
ready for defending against possible strikes.

Figure 6 – Masoud grabs Soheil’s hand and
pushes it away from his body. At the same time,
he applies pressure on the vital points behind
Soheil’s right ear with his index fi nger and applies
pressure on the vital points under Soheil’s jaw
with his thumb. Masoud also puts his elbow on
Soheil’s chest. Other fi ngers play a covering role.
Note for fi gure 6- If the opponent is a bully, you
can grab his Adam’s apple or his jaw muscles
with your two fi ngers or squeeze it with your
fi ngers (index or thumb) in a way that you feel
will allow you to apply pressure and control it.
Note that you must be close to your opponent
and pull him toward your body at the proper
angle. As you see in the photos, I bend my
head and position my shoulder as a barrier to
prevent the attacker from grabbing my hair.
