Alex Gillis reviewed the Korea-gate Congressional
Record (which included thousands of pages of
testimony, FBI investigative reports, and reports
from other federal agencies and hearings held
both in the US Senate and the US House of
Representatives) and uncovered what many people
knew about Dr. Kim, including General Choi.

  1. On June 15, 2002, right before his death,
General Choi clearly declared his intention
that “even though I now live in Canada,
I am the founder of the Tae Kwon-Do
and I would like to be buried in either
South or North Korea.” So I contacted
the top officials of both Koreas to let
them know about his final desire.

General Choi’s return to
South Korea was blocked
by Kim Un-Yong, who had
solid control of the Tae Kwon
Do world in South Korea
for about 30 years and had pioneered Olympic
style TKD. In the meantime, north Korea
offered General Choi all the support he needed,
including support for all medical costs and the
promise of burying him in the national cemetery
with honor. That is the only reason he is buried
in north Korea. He had never been a communist
nor had he supported any communist regime.
His only loyalty was to his art, Tae Kwon Do.
He was a true martial arts man. Tae Kwon Do
Times and I know that he is the fantastic founder
of Tae Kwon Do. We all know that no one can
lie about historical facts, and I really hope all who
come later will have a fair and correct judgment
about the life of General Choi Hong-Hee.

In the early 2003, $2,000,000 in Euros,
dollars and Yen was found in Kim Un-Yong’s
personal lock box. Kim was arrested, prosecuted
& convicted, in addition he resigned in
disgrace from his positions. There was great
disappointment among
Tae Kwon Do practitioners
all over the world.

Now Tae Kwon Do is being practiced in
208 countries. Many people have different
opinions about Tae Kwon Do’s being
chosen as a competitive Olympic sport.

I believe a ratio of 95% family style
to 5% Olympic style is the best for
TKD. The reader, however, has to make
up their own mind about this.
