Britvic gives Campbell

commercial ops role

John Campbell joined Britvic as finance director in 2013

Daniel Selwood
Britvic has announced
the appointment of John
Campbell as its new com-
mercial operations direc-
tor – succeeding Nigel
Paine, who has taken
on the role of senior vice
president for Britvic
North America.
Campbell joined the
soft drinks company and
its GB executive team in
October 2013 as finance
director. He has more
than 25 years of experi-
ence in fmcg finance and
commercial strategy,
including senior roles
at Diageo and Heinz, as
well as a strong under-
standing of IT and pro-
gramme management.
He began his career
with accountancy giant
KPMG in 1987, before
joining United Distillers

four years later. In
1997, the business was
acquired by Diageo,
where Campbell rose to
the position of finance
director for South Africa
before moving to Heinz
in 2011, where he served
two years as chief finan-
cial officer for UK &
Ireland.
In his new Britvic role,

Campbell will report to
GB managing director
Paul Graham, and will
be responsible for grow-
ing the soft drinks cate-
gory through compelling
activation platforms and
execution at point of
purchase.
Campbell had an
“exceptional understand-
ing of our commercial

business”, said Graham,
and had been central “in
growing our business
year on year on our jour-
ney to delivering trans-
formational growth into
the soft drinks category”.
Now was “a very excit-
ing time for soft drinks”
Campbell said. “I’m
delighted to be stepping
into this new role at such
a pivotal moment.”
Paine has been at
Britvic for 14 years, hav-
ing joined from Danone
in February 2004.
He began as business
unit controller for grocery
before going on to hold
a series of commercial
roles. He was promoted
to commercial operations
director in August 2016
before taking up his cur-
rent US role just over a
year later last September.

Fleming Medical’s
customer base in the UK
continues to expand,
creating opportunities
for full-time pharmacy
sales representatives in
London, the Midlands
and Scotland.
Successful candidates
will be responsible for
promoting Fleming's
extensive portfolio of
own branded healthcare
products including first
aid, sports therapy,
woundcare and
diagnostic medical
devices to the retail
pharmacy market.

i want that job

my alternative cv

What was your first job? I
worked as a volunteer at
the Ffestiniog Station gift
shop when I was about 12
years old.
What’s been your worst
job interview? I have
only ever had one inter-
view, which was over 30
years ago when I joined
Cadbury as a graduate.
I can’t remember much
about it but I got the job.
What was the first music
single you bought?
Michael Jackson – Off the
Wall.
How do you describe
your job to your mates?
Completely different from
my corporate roles at
Cadbury. Building a busi-
ness and a challenger

brand from scratch is the
most satisfying job I have
ever done.
What is the most reward-
ing part of your job?
Seeing people who have
joined the team develop
and grow in skills and
confidence.
What is the least reward-
ing part? Doing my
expenses!
What is your motto? Just
be true to your values
and never have a motto!
If you were allowed one
dream perk, what would
it be? A smorgasbord of
top-quality crispbread
toppings including arti-
san cheeses, patés and
gravadlax delivered
every week.

Do you have any pho-
bias? No, and I’m not
superstitious either.
If you could change one
thing in grocery, what
would it be? Buyers mov-
ing to another role just as
you have built up a great
working relationship.
What luxury would you
have on a desert island?
A yacht – I’m not keen
on sand and I get bored
easily.
What animal most
reflects your personal-
ity? My son tells me I’m
an ant because I like
being part of a team and I
never stop working!
What’s your favourite
film and why? Slumdog
Millionaire – rousing,

intense and it makes me
smile.
What has been the most
embarrassing moment
in your life? When I acci-
dently sold an empty
jigsaw box to an elderly
gentleman without real-
ising it was just a box
for display. By the time I
realised, it was too late.
Which celebrity would
you most like to work
with and why? Daniel
Craig. Why? Why would
any woman need to ask
why?
What would your death
row meal be? Champagne
and canapés. Gravadlax
with mustard & dill sauce
served with sourdough
crispbread – naturally.
