Snowdon Sports

Storey Racing’s Beth Crumpton secured a dramatic third victory
in the National Trophy, winning at Ipswich’s Trinity Park by just five
seconds to secure the overall series title.
The 23-year-old from Redditch had to hold off Abergavenny
RC rival Ffion James to win the title — but on the day her main
challenge came from EDCO Continental rider Anna Kay.
Crumpton attacked early in the race, and with only Kay able to
go with her they worked together to extend their lead. A late attack
saw Crumpton take the win from Kay, with Sophie Wright (100%
ME) another 36 seconds back and Ffion James a couple of minutes
off the pace in fifth.
“This has been a few years coming, so I’m really chuffed,” said
Crumpton. “I wanted to go out hard
and split the race early. Anna and I
worked well, but I put in a little move
round the back and held on.”
Meanwhile, Belgium’s Braam
Merlier secured a third consecutive
victory in the men’s race, crossing
the line almost a minute ahead
of his nearest rival to secure
second spot overall behind British
champion Ian Field.
Merlier initially had Swiss
under-23 champion Johan Jacobs
for company but he soon dropped
him, while Daniel Tulett (Specialized
Racing) overhauled Jacobs to
take second.
Already assured of the overall title,
Ian Field placed 11th as he continued
to struggle with a chest infection.
“I’ve been really ill since Bradford,”
he said. “The first race back was
always going to be tough, especially
on such a fast course. I didn’t want to
go too deep before the Nationals.”
