80 GOLF ASIA
ESCAPE
breakfast of eggs and bacon, we hit
the A64 towards the coast for our
second round at Ganton Golf Club.
Another course listed in the world’s top
100, this tight and testing heathland
track with links characteristics is the
pick of the Yorkshire bunch. Gary
Player once said that Ganton is the
only inland course worthy of holding
the Open Championship. It’s not
managed that but it has hosted an
illustrious roll call of team events
including the Ryder (1949), Curtis
(2000) and Walker Cups (2003).
Golf was first played at Ganton in 1891
Scarborough harbour.
