It has emerged that creditors of
Edinburgh-based refrigerator supplier
Capital Cooling are “highly unlikely”
to receive their dividend after the
refrigeration specialist was saved from
administration in December.
Capital Cooling, which first
announced administration on 22 December, was rescued from
insolvency thanks to a pre-pack administration deal brokered by
auditor KPMG. Private investor Rcapital bought the business for
£300,000, but Capital’s service division was closed during the process.
The firm owes nearly £2m to its unsecured creditors, with
insolvency administrator KPMG reportedly sceptical that it will be
able to provide adequate funding for dividends. Major foodservice
equipment manufacturers and suppliers who top the creditors list
include: Foster Refrigerator, £61,447.89; Pastorfrigor, £27,712.94;
Hubbard Ice Systems, £13,900.29; First Choice Catering Spares,
£8,402.91; Jestic, £8,328.98; Project Distribution (Prodis), £7,752.00;
and Smeg, £5,499.50.
KPMG said in the Joint Administrators proposals report: “At
present it is uncertain whether there will be sufficient funds available
to enable a dividend to preferential creditors. Any potential dividend
will be dependent on the level of asset realisations, the costs of the
administration process and the final level of preferential claims.”

CEDA has offered its support
to foodservice sector
companies affected by the
liquidation of construction
giant Carillion. The news
sent shockwaves through the
construction industry, its
supply chain and the nation.
Build UK, the representative
organisation for the UK construction industry, has thrown its weight
behind the Carillion supply chain and is representing its needs in on-
going talks directly with government, attending a meeting with the
secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy.
As a founding member of Build UK, and the only association
member specific to the foodservice industry, CEDA is able to feed into
these discussions and represent those companies in the foodservice
sector affected by Carillion’s collapse.
In pledging his organisation’s assistance, CEDA director general
Adam Mason said: “As the fallout from the Carillion collapse
dominates the political agenda, our unique position within the
Build UK membership places us at the forefront for any foodservice
business now facing uncertain times.
“We are a direct route to help and support, and to date we have
been in regular communication with members, but we call on any
business in the sector, CEDA members or not, who are or feel they may
be affected by the Carillion crisis, to get in touch.”

RDA to help US burger

chain crack the UK

Following the success
of The Counter which
opened in Glasgow
last June, distributor
RDA has been
appointed to design
and fit-out the first
ever UK site for Built
Custom Burgers.
The brand is the
fast casual version of
The Counter, serving ‘build your own’ burgers, fries, shakes, and more,
in a cutting edge, urban industrial interior.
RDA was recently selected based on its design concept for The
Counter, which stayed true to the brand’s LA roots with a UK
twist resulting in a high-end American style diner in the heart of
Glasgow. Coming soon to Ilford, London, RDA’s team is currently
creating the design for Built Custom Burgers to match the LA theme
of The Counter.
Nick Bradley, director at Restaurant Design Associates, said: “We
are thrilled to be working with team again to help bring Built to
London. Part of the design challenge, as it was with The Counter, is
ensuring that we translate the USA brand for UK diners and we are
working closely with our client in the UK and the Built operational
and marketing teams in the US to ensure that happens.”

CES wraps up new Nobu site

Peterborough-based
kitchen design house
Catering Equipment
Solutions (CES) has
completed a prestigious
project at Nobu Hotels’
first European site in Shoreditch, London.
CES feels it provided a comprehensive service that included the
design development, installation and fit out of the kitchen and back
of house facilities for The Nobu Restaurant & Bar and the lobby
lounge kitchen and bar.
The distributor’s kitchen designers maximised the use of
space in the main basement kitchen and upstairs lobby lounge
kitchen, which service both the 240-seat restaurant and the hotel’s
banqueting, event catering and private dining needs.
Core to the main open-to-view kitchen design was a 7metre long
Angelo Po central island cooking suite. Nobu’s preferred range
format, it was so large it had to be craned into the building in three
sections, manhandled down to the basement level and then welded
together under a one-piece top and then, finally, polished.
Specially sourced and imported by CES from Japan were three
Tanaka food display cases, which form the counter between
Nobu chefs and their customers. The distributor’s designers
utilised ‘remote’ refrigeration to direct waste heat externally. The
compressors are sited outside of the kitchen itself and linked to
fridges and freezers via dedicated pipework. CES also specified a
Meiko rack transport dishwasher, featuring integral heat recovery.
