exposureusingupto

threegroupsof flashes,

withtheabilitytocontrol

theintensityof eachgroup

fromthecamera.The

on-board,orcontrolling,

flashcanbeswitchedto

onlysendthecontrol

pulses,andsonotbepart

of theoverallexposure.

I amnowjoyfully

possessedof a (pre-loved)

Nissini40flashgun,which

worksexactlyasdescribed

above!Althoughthereare

drawbackstovisiblelight

systems,sofarI have

successfullyexperimented

withindoorportraits.

A major interview with Yousuf Karsh was a highlight

THISweektheslightlyunsettlingcoverheraldsan

interestinginterviewwithSimonDonnelly,whowas

a fullyfledgedphotographicprobytheageof 21.

Wethink,thoughwearenotsure,thatSimonis still

workingasa professionalweddingphotographer,so

if youarereadingthis,pleasegetin touchtoconfirm.

Anotherhighlightwasaninterviewwiththelegendary

YousufKarsh.Karsh,whowouldhavebeen 83 when

thiswaspublished,givessomegreatinsightsintohis

wayof workingandtalksaboutsomeclassicimages.

Karshphotographedsomeof THEmajorfiguresin

20th-centuryhistoryandpolitics,suchasChurchill

andFidelCastro,aswellasHollywoodcelebrities.He

wasa masterof portraittechniqueandlightingaswell

asa generousspirit.It’salsogoodtoseethatsomeof

thosewhoputthisAPissuetogetherarestillworking

forthephotographypressin variousguises,including

Keith Wilson, Steve Fairclough and Chris George.
