Spotlight on readers’ excellent images and how they captured them

Dundee
2 ‘I waited for a
solitary figure and
their shadow to enter
the light and pressed
the shutter,’ Graeme
recalls. ‘I like the
way he is rim lit
down one side.’

Old Man, Valencia
1 Graeme often sits
and waits in cafés
for his pictures.
‘There was a pool
of low sunlight and
I waited for someone
interesting to pass
through it,’ he says.

3 Graeme spotted
this shaft of light one
morning, and thought
it had potential. ‘I
focused on the old
woman and it was
only when processing
that I noticed the
young woman with
her children at the
entrance to the
alleyway,’ he explains.

GraemeYoungson, Aberdeen
Graeme Youngson’s fi rst love, photographically
speaking, has always been street photography,
particularly because it’s something you can
do any time you have a camera with you.
‘Sometimes I fi nd it’s when you are not actively
lookingforphotographic subject matter that opportunities
seem to come your way,’ he says. Recently, he has been
concentrating on capturing images in strong, low, directional
light. Late afternoon in winter is often the best time for this
approach. ‘This style can often give a sense of isolation and
the potential loneliness of the urban world,’ he says.
