Try your hand at
pet photography,
making use of leaves to
add character and ramp
up the cute levels. Food
or toys will grab most
dog’s attention, and
you can direct their gaze
towards the front of
your lens by holding the
treat above your head.
A wide aperture is best.

BONFIRES

49

Nothing says
autumn like a
glowing warm bonfire, and
larger bonfire displays can
often be found alongside
firework events. To capture
enough light on the sensor,
set your lens’ widest
possible aperture and a
high ISO. Get close (but
not too close) to the fire for
maximum impact. A 50mm
focal length is ideal here.

FIREWORKS

48

Prefocus at a point in the sky where the
fireworks are going to appear, then switch
to Manual. In Bulb mode, set a mid-aperture
(f/11-f/16) and keep the shutter open for around
1-4 seconds to capture a firework as it explodes.
