RAD(EON)
This month, it’s all about the new
Radeon gear. We’ve got our grubby
mitts on both new GPUs—the RX
5700 and RX 5700 XT—along with
a selection of Ryzen 3000-series
CPUs. We’re loving them, too. The
RX 5700 in particular impressed,
just about matching the in-game
performance of Nvidia’s GeForce
GTX 1080 at less than half the
price. It’s a staggeringly good
card for 1080p and 1440p gaming,
and I’ve found myself looking at it
longingly on its perch on the top
shelf of our stock cupboard.
Choosing a GPU right now
is tricky. If you’re on a budget,
factory overclocked models of
the RX 580 and RX 590 are still
available at incredibly low prices.
If you’ve got a bit more money, you
may be deliberating between the
RX 5700 or the RTX 2060 Super,
or even the RTX 2070 Super. For
4K gaming, the older 2080 Ti still
rules the roost. That puts the
RX 5700 in a slightly odd middle
ground between the budget cards
and more powerful 1440p cards.
That isn’t a bad thing, though.
For just $350, the RX 5700 is still
perfectly capable of cracking
60fps at 1440p ultra in many
games, more so if you don’t mind
dropping the settings a little. Yes,
the XT version is still better, but
for a mid-range build, I’d find it
difficult not to recommend.

SHAKE IT UP

Too many tabs open at once for your liking? Well, there’s a

simple solution: Use your cursor to grab the title bar of the

application or page you want to focus on, and give it a good

shake. Thanks to a nifty motion feature in Windows 10, this

instantly minimizes all your other open windows. Plus, the

angry shaking of a program you’re supposed to be working on

feels oddly cathartic.
