RICHARD MILLE
RM 53-01
The RM 53-01 is the ‘smashing’ new result of the encounter between Richard Mille
and Pablo Mac Donough, one of the world’s best players. Sporty and dynamic, this
watch reveals a suspended tourbillon calibre, visible through the unprecedented
laminated sapphire glass of its Carbon TPT case, a complex armour of an entirely new
kind for this high-risk sport. That one of polo’s greatest champions should be able to
wear a watch in the midst of play, and a tourbillon at that is by no means a miracle.
Shock is the enemy of a tourbillon movement. Richard Mille’s solution is a cable-
suspended movement. The atypical architecture of this design required the creation of
two separate baseplates. The first, or ‘peripheral’ plate is fixed to the case and supports
the tensioner mechanisms. The second, known as the ‘central’ plate, is linked to the
peripheral plate by cables and incorporates the wheels comprising the calibre as well
as the winding mechanism. The central baseplate rests, like a spider in the middle of
its web, on two braided steel cables just 0.27 mm in diameter.
These cables, sketching a three-dimensional structure
in their path through 10 pulleys, are anchored by
4 tensioners. The watchmaker is responsible for
tensioning the cables by rotating a spline screw
located at the centre of each tensioner. By
ensuring an even distribution of tension, this
pulley system guarantees perfect balance
of the whole mechanism. The suspended
movement and the use of grade 5 titanium
(double baseplate and bridges) contribute
increased stiffness, while ensuring smooth
functioning of the going train and optimal
shock protection.

PANERAI
L’Astronomo - Luminor 1950
Tourbillon Moon Phases Equation
of Time GMT 50mm
Innovation and high quality watchmaking
are combined in the new L’Astronomo -
Luminor 1950 Tourbillon Moon Phases
Equation of Time GMT, the latest creation
dedicated to Galileo Galilei. A Luminor
1950 case, whose iconic design is part of
the fascinating history of Officine Panerai,
encloses a concentration of technical
solutions which demonstrate the ability of
the Florentine brand to interpret traditional
complications in ways which are always
distinctive, bringing innovation into the world
of high quality sports watchmaking. The first
Panerai L’Astronomo, presented in 2010 on
the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the
celestial observations made by Galileo as a
result of the invention of the telescope, was
the first timepiece created by Panerai with
a tourbillon regulator, calendar, equation of
time indication and the display of the times
of sunrise and sunset. Like its predecessor,
the new L’Astronomo - Luminor 1950
Tourbillon Moon Phases Equation of Time
GMT is made to order, and the skeletonised
movement, the P.2005/GLS (standing for
Galileo Luna Scheletrato), is personalised to
operate in accordance with the geographical
coordinates of a place chosen by the client.
It provides the same range of remarkable
functions as the first L’Astronomo, and in
addition, GMT and two other innovations:
indication of the phases of the moon and an
original system for displaying the date using
polarised crystals.

Lo Scienziato - Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Titanio 47mm
With its titanium case 3D-printed using the technique of Direct Metal Laser Sintering,
this timepiece undoubtedly one of the most innovative and surprising creations of
the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. Presented in
2016 as the first implementation of this technology for a
mechanical timepiece, Lo Scienziato is now available in
a new version, which still has all the characteristics of
its predecessor but with a slightly revised appearance.
In the new model the blue of the hands, harmonising
perfectly with the metallic tones of the titanium case,
is also used on the flange and in the sewing
of the black leather strap, giving the watch
an even sportier appearance. The weight of
the new Lo Scienziato is truly remarkable,
particularly considering its wealth of features:
hours, minutes, small seconds, GMT with am/
pm indication, a power reserve of six days with
indication of the power remaining on the back, and
a tourbillon escapement. The secret of its lightness
lies in the ingenious work of minimalisation carried out
by the Laboratorio di Idee of the Panerai Manufacture
in Neuchâtel on the case and on the sophisticated
P.2005/T movement, to design a watch with the typical
Panerai characteristics but with a substantially lower weight.
