THE SECOND PLACE LOCAL MALE
Hui Ho Tat, and top local female Cheung Man
Yee from the MSIG HK 50 – the first race of the
Action Asia Development Programme – have
claimed overall champion and second place

THE FIRST WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY SAW
Hong Kong’s temperature plummeting to single
digits with a frost warning overnight, adding
an extra edge to the Aberdeen Boat Club &
Beneteau Four Peaks Race.
Sponsored by Beneteau and Simpson
Marine, this annual two-day multisport race
saw 19 teams and over 160 participants compete
in three divisions, sailing and running across
iconic peaks of Hong Kong, including Lantau
Peak, Mt Stenhouse, Violet Hill, Ma On Shan
and Tung Lung Chau.
Lantau Peak and Ma On Shan were
dominated by runners from Red Kite II. Nicholas
Meillassoux and Arnaud Carcel completed the
former in 1 hour 20 minutes 13 seconds, and
Meillassoux and Jacques Clot running the latter
in 1 hour 35 minutes.
The ever-tricky Mt Stenhouse was completed
in 1 hour 32 minutes 53 seconds by Christophe
Renoul and Edward Tanner from Avant Garde.
The fastest runners for Violet Hill were Martin
Boudailiez and Quentin Bourbotte from
Andiamo; and for Tung Lung Chau, Peter Smyth

and David Bulbeck.
The race started at 10:35a.m. on the Saturday
with the first boat finishing at 5:22a.m. the next
day – just under 18 hours.

Elaine took line honours in Division A-IRC,

THAILAND TRAIL RUNNING

Encouraging the next generation

woman respectively in the second race of the
programme: the MSIG Thailand Action Asia 50
on December 17, 2017.
The two top Hong Kong-born runners
were invited to the Chiang Mai race in the Doi

Inthanon National Park, also known as the Roof
of Thailand for its highest peak in the country.
It was Hui’s first time to join an overseas
trail race, which he completed in 6 hours 48
minutes and 58 seconds. “I was deeply honoured
and pleased to be the Hong Kong representative
joining this amazing event with such a satisfying
result and I will definitely train harder and aim
higher!” he said afterwards.
Retained the top woman title after the three
qualifying races, Cheung was surprised with her
result in the 54-km Woman’s category, “ I didn’t
expect much regarding the MSIG Action Asia
Development Programme ranking, as I didn’t
perform very well in MSIG Lantau 50, so I am so
glad and happy with the latest result!”
The Development Programme is the first of
its kind for local Hong Kong trail runners, which
offers the highest-ranked local male and female
runners of the four-race series, a five-month
training course ahead of the Skyrunning World
Championships in Europe.
