Widespread and nocturnal, leopards are very vulnerable to road accidents. A
recent country-wide study involving 665 road and rail kills between 2012-17
revealed that leopard deaths constituted an overwhelming 38 per cent of all
NIKHIL TAMBEKAR kills, followed by elephant at 15 per cent.
