When you open the App Store from within the Messages
app, you’ll be taken to a useful Messages-specific version,
not the full iOS App Store.

YOU WILL LEARN
How to expand
Messages with apps

YOU’LL NEED
iOS 10 or later

Have you ever been chatting
with someone in Messages
and had to exit the app to find
something, copy it and then
return to Messages and paste it into the
conversation? Messages apps mean you may
not need to do that any more.
Apple has opened the Messages app up
to developers, and they’ve responded with
all kinds of apps designed to make Messages
more capable. You can insert stickers, files,

amusing images, social media links or pretty
much anything else you might want to share.
The App Store is positively packed with
Messages apps. There are apps for translation,
for arranging nights out, for banking and
saving and travel as well as tons of image
apps and social media apps. You can even play
games such as the lovably retro Let’s Puck It
which enables you to play a modern version of
the classic Pong, or Game Pigeon, which offers
in-app versions of pool, poker and Battleships
among others.

Take control
In this guide, we’ll keep to more practical
pursuits and show you how Messages
connects with streaming and cloud apps such
as Dropbox and Spotify. We’ll also discover
how to change which apps appear in
Messages, which is often useful: if an app
has a Messages component, it will appear
automatically, but while you might want app
X loaded on your iPad, you might not want the
Messages version of it clogging up your list of
apps within its browser.

Genius tip!
If you want to
completely remove a
Messages app rather
than hide it, open the
Edit screen as normal
and swipe left on the
app to remove it.
