Bowers & Wilkins

Formation Wedge
+++++^ £899.99^ bowerswilkins.com

Akaso V50 Elite
+++++^ £159^ akaso.org

B

owers & Wilkins says the elliptical shape of this
speaker’s back panel (it travels through 120°)
and the curve of the front enables it to position
the drivers in a way that gives a wide spread of sound. It
works: it fills a room in a way that sounds great anywhere.
Music is natural and detailed – highly accomplished.
There’s maybe a slight lack of dynamism when moving
between loud, brash parts and quiet parts, but it’s minor.
Wireless options include Apple AirPlay 2, aptx HD
Bluetooth and Spotify Connect.

here’s a lot of value to be had here if you want
a small, action-ready camera capable of filming
in 4K 60fps. We love its tripod thread, spare
batteries, and core features – it takes solid-quality video
at its highest level, and excellent photos in both raw and
JPEG formats. It connects to tablets and phones over
Wi-Fi, for live view and control, or to transfer files. The
app tends to stall, but ultimately worked for us. The
touchscreen on the device is quite small, and the menus
are sluggish. The camera itself isn’t waterproof, sadly,
though it comes with a case that is.

Airthings Wave Mini
+++++^ £79^ airthings.com

T

he goal of the Airthings Wave Mini is to let you
quickly and easily understand the air quality
level around you. Wave your hand in front of the
device and it’ll respond with a traffic light scale: a green
light for good quality air, orange for warning and red for
danger. If you get a negative readout, you can go to your
iPad or phone for more info: setup on the iOS app is easy

  • just follow the on-screen tutorial and tell the app what
    room the Wave Mini will be used in. It calibrates for seven
    days but works as normal during this time – you’ll get
    detailed readings within about an hour. The app is basic
    otherwise, and doesn’t support more than one sensor.
