A Majestic Creature
Dark and feline, his amber eyes glow,
Prowling the jungle, moving steady
and slow.
Almost invisible, he awaits his prey,
Beauty or a beast, it’s hard to say.
He walks through the jungle with
balletic poise,
Merges with the bushes devoid of noise.
Orange skin and pitch black streaks,
Royal and strong, indeed unique.
Alas! These beauties are cruelly slayed,
Soon their population will begin
to fade.
They don’t deserve this! What have they
done to Man? Only 2,226 left, count
them while you can.
Lord of the jungle, may you rule again!
Without tigers, life will not sustain.

Machli
One of the most majestic felines,
Had lethal but beautiful canines.
The Bengal tigress Machli,
Ranthambore National Park’s rani.
Roamed the park, spreading grandeur
Wherever she went.
A born fighter, definitely not one of
the quitters,
Was named Machli among her sisters,
For a fish-like mark on her face.
Giving 11 more to the tiger population,
Machli, a doting and a
wonderful mother,
Loving her litter like none other.
Lady of the Lakes and Crocodile Killer,
Were just a few names for this tigress,
Who took home crocs for dinner!
A must-see for tourists,
Machli was a sensation,
All over the nation.
She outlived many of her cubs,
Living to the grand old age of 20,
She died in the year 2016,
A day of loss for Indian wildlife.
