CHAIN OF EVENTS Amidst the tall sal trees and high
grasslands, our planet’s most treasured animals go about
their daily ritual of crossing the Ramganga river in Corbett.
Everyone at Dhikala would wake up with hopes of seeing a
tiger, but these elephants gave me my best memories. I’d see
them every morning during my visit. Elephants would cross
the river from the same place in herds, bathe in leisure and
disappear into the thick cover of the forest. Young ones in
the herd would be well protected by the matriarch and other
females. These elephants would bathe in water first and then
sand in order to keep their body cool and parasites at bay, a
habit that I find rather smart. But then again, nature never
stops amusing me.
