OF HER FIRST GRANDCHILD
I
n an emotional tribute
to her newborn grandson,
Johanna Griggs has
revealed she is ‘bursting
with pride and emotion’.
The popular House Rules host
shared the happy news
that her 21-year-old son
Joe, and his partner Katie
Buttel, welcomed a baby
boy into the world last
week, weighing 3.7kg and
measuring 54cm long.
‘Katie and Joe
completely calm and over
the moon. Both families
ecstatic with the safe
arrival of this much
loved little man,’ she
wrote on Instagram.
‘Can’t begin to
describe how incredible
it is to see my baby
holding his baby,’ shegushed, ‘What a beautiful day.
‘What a divine gift into all of
our lives he is. Congrats again to
Katie and Joe for producing such
a gorgeous little bundle of
perfection.’
Despite having lived a very
full life so far, at just 44, the
former competitive swimmer is
quite young to already be a
grandmother.
She and ex-husband, Gary
Sweet, had first son Jesse, now
22, when Johanna was just 22.
She gave birth to her
youngest son, Joe, who is now
the proud new dad, a year later.
Johanna told New Idea late
last year that her husband and
the boys’ stepdad Todd Huggins
was ‘giddy with excitement’
about the arrival of the bub who,
at the time of printing, was yet
to be named.‘Everyone is really pumped,
we’re just over the moon,’ the
proud grandmother gushed.
‘Todd’s reaction was to go
straight online and buy home
and away Manchester United
outfits. This was before we even
knew what gender it was!’
According to new
grandmother Johanna, it was
decided months ago what she
would be called by her
grandchildren.
‘Joh-nanna,’ Johanna revealed,
laughing.
‘I love it! The week that they
[Katie and Joe] passed the
three-month stage, I was away
for work for Better Homes And
Gardens and everyone was
calling me Joh-nanna. And it’s
kind of stuck!’
